Are Audioengine A2+ loud?
It can get really loud, which is not an issue if you’re listening on your desk. At this distance, the A2+ will sound like it’s a big speaker. It’s powerful enough to fill a small room but it won’t sound like actual large speakers.
How do I connect my subwoofer to Audioengine A5+?
Plug the RCA into either line level input. Set the PC to 2.1. This will reduce the range of bass that the A5+ will receive and allow them to play louder. For A5+ remote volume control connect the sub to the line level outs on the back of the A5+ with standard RCA audio cables.
They don’t get loud enough where you’ll be using them in your living room. We’ll get to that later though. The volume control is on the back, as well as the Bluetooth pairing button, which I really like. The front of the A2+ Speakers is clean.

How long do Audioengine speakers last?
Mine lasted 3 1/2 years, 6 months out of the warranty period. I bought the A5+ speakers with the Audioengine S8B subwoofer and a Dragonfly DAC to use with my extensive laptop music collection. The speakers sounded fantastic for 3 years and 4 months, then they began making popping and crackling static sounds.
Do you need a DAC with active speakers?
All computers, phones, and audio players that can playback sound already have a DAC built into them, so active speakers do NOT need an external DAC to work.
What can damage speakers?
Playing music/audio too loud may cause damage to speakers due to excess heat in the drivers or even mechanical failure of the driver suspension. Speakers have power ratings that, when exceeded (by increasing the amplifier/volume control), will burn/melt the driver coil and damage the speaker.
