What’s the difference between a birth centre and Labour Ward?

Birth centres can be alongside but separate from a hospital labour ward. They can also be in a different place completely so they’re freestanding. Birth centres don’t have obstetric, neonatal or anaesthetic care on the premises. As with labour wards, all midwife-led units are different.

When can I use the birthing centre?

You can use the Birthing Centre from the start of your 37th week of pregnancy up to 41 weeks +6 days. The Birthing Centre is located on the 3 rd floor of the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson (EGA) Wing. This is one floor above the Labour Ward.

Can I have a home birth at UCLH?

UCLH offers and supports home birth for women with a low risk pregnancy that is not complicated by medical or obstetric concerns. However, if you decide against a home birth we recommend that you plan to give birth on the Birthing Centre if you have no medical conditions and your pregnancy is uncomplicated.

Is UCLH Euston a five star hospital?

This is a five star hospital. University College Hospital has not yet replied. The staff at UCLH Euston Road, Tower, 8th Floor North were very professional, caring and friendly.
