Are REI packs good?
Overall, we are very impressed with the REI Co-op Flash 55 Backpack and think it’s a great option for lightweight backpackers, thru-hikers, and backpackers on a budget. We love the comfort and customization this pack offers, and had fun rearranging all of its pockets and straps until it was perfect for us.

Are Mountainsmith packs good?
In terms of comfort, I was incredibly impressed. The shoulder and waist straps have a layer of padding that is thick and comfortable, but also ventilated. My one qualm with this pack is the water bottle holders. One of them is tipped in such a way that your water bottle can be accessed easily while hiking.

Although it is heavy, the Mountainsmith Morrison 2 is a solid workhorse tent. You won’t mind spending time in its luxurious interior. We like all the pockets and variations of its interior doors. We worry that it whips in high winds and may not withstand a punishing rainstorm.

How big should my climbing pack be?
For adventures that are one day or less a good size is 35 to 50 liters. One of the best companies in the business is Hyperlite Mountain Gear. For just climbing multi-pitch rock faces the 2400 Porter is a great option. If you want to add ice climbing into the mix the 2400 Ice Pack is a great option.
How big should a climbing bag be?
As a general rule, ~30 liters or less capacity works for summer day trips. About 50 liters or more will do well for a weekend. 60-80 liters can be great for multiple days. Generally, a 100+ liter bag will be the biggest you need and can serve you well for week long climbs, or months-long expeditions.
