What is VSAS? The Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS®) is an AAMC application designed to streamline the application process for senior “away” electives. VSAS enables medical students to submit just one application for all institutions, effectively reducing paperwork, miscommunication, and time.
Are VSLO and VSAS the same thing?
The AAMC Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) program is the updated version of their visiting elective rotations network. It combines the Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) program and the Global Health Learning Opportunities (GHLO) program into one searchable format.

Program participants include medical and public health students and institutions in the U.S. and around the globe.
How much does VSAS cost?
Fees – VSAS application fees are based on the number of institutions being applied to, not the number of electives. A fee of $35 is assessed for the first institution and $15 per institution thereafter. Log in to VSAS to review your pending applications and received offers.

LORs can be uploaded to VSAS by your home school only; you cannot upload an LOR to your VSAS applications. Although this may vary by institution, usually your Registrar’s Office will have VSAS access, so faculty members can send LORs to them to be uploaded to your application.
