What is an HSK spindle?
The HSK (Hohl Shaft Kegel, or hollow-shank taper) tooling provides dual contact between the taper and the spindle face, providing a very rigid connection that offers excellent axial and radial accuracy, especially at high spindle speeds.
Why are HSK tool holders better than V flange tool holders at high speeds?
Ultimately, HSK tool holders have better radial and axial stiffness, leading to high accuracy, repeatability, and top-notch surface finishing. With HSK tool holder types A, B, C, D, E, and F, users have a wide variety of options for a specific project.
What is HSK tooling?
HSK Tooling System HSK is a German acronym that means “hollow taper shank” and serves as the hollow taper interface that connects to HSK machines using flange contact.
How does a HSK tool holder work?
HSK holders incorporate two drive slots that engage drive keys in the spindle receiver. When clamped into the receiver, the wall of the hollow shank deflects slightly. Radial access holes in the shank’s wall allow the clamping mechanism to contact an actuation screw.
Should I use HSK?

How does HSK spindle work?
The HSK contacts the spindle taper and flange on the spindle face to make a solid union in both the axial and radial planes. In operation, HSK tool holders are resistant to axial movement because the face contact prevents the toolholder from being pulled up into the spindle at high speed.
What is an HSK 63a?
Product Description. HSK63A End Mill Holders are manufactured to meet or exceed the H5 specification. H5 is an extremely accurate bore I.D. and provides improved T.I.R. for extended cutting tool life. When machining in tight areas make sure to try our Rigid Reach End Mill holders.
What is HSK taper?
The acronym “HSK” is the German abbreviation for “hollow taper shank.” One of the top-used tool holder standards is HSK; it is a relatively new design. Is BT40 the same as iso40?
BT40 is just the taper, tapers are the same. Then the water gets furter muddied with ISO 40, CAT 40 etc which are all the same taper and fitting as BT40 EXCEPT for the flange with the driving dogs. On a manual machine this doesn’t matter, the flange differences are for the toolchangers on CNC machines.
