Locus of Corruption is an incursion room. It can be upgraded from Catalyst of Corruption, itself from Corruption Chamber.
How do you make Shadowstitch?
Item acquisition Shadowstitch can only be obtained from the Altar of Corruption at Locus of Corruption, by double corrupting Sacrificial Garb. The chance to obtain Shadowstitch replaces the outcome of obtaining a Double Corrupted item. Note that the Sacrificial Garb must be normal rarity for this to occur.

What does corrupting a skill gem do?
If a gem has been corrupted, you will not be able to use crafting orbs to modify it any further, with the exception of items that modify sockets and socket links. In general, corrupted gems are better than their non-corrupted counterparts.
Do corrupted gems level up?
To increase your gem’s quality above 20 you need to corrupt your gem. It needs to have 20% quality beforehand, so when you corrupt it you’ll have a 16-20% chance to increase gem quality to 23% (from 20%). You can do this with a Vaal Orb.

To use a Vaal skill, its gem must first be charged by collecting souls. Souls can be obtained by killing enemies, granting 1 souls per kill. Souls can also be obtained when damaging Rare or Unique enemies (1 or 6 souls, respectively, per 2% life lost with a 1 second cooldown).
How did the Gems get corrupted?
Cause. Corrupted Gems had been normal Gems before the events that unfolded at the end of The Rebellion. As a last-ditch effort in the war for Earth the other Diamonds sent out a flash of bright light which corrupted Gems from both Homeworld and the Rebellion on Earth.
